CHURCH OF THE DORMITION OF MARY (KOIMESIS TIS THEOTOKOU)

The church Koimesis tis Theotokou at Mesi Synoikia, Trikala, was built in 1784. It belongs to the homonymous nunnery of the village. It is a small single room basilica, with interior dimensions measuring 14,65×4,70 m, covered with a gabled roof.
There are two arched entrances leading one to the naos and the other to the gynaikonitis, which is elevated, and to the west of the naos. They are divided by a wall, while a door permits their communication.

The church is lit by two comparatively large windows, and has a decorated ceiling, as well as a blind false dome. It is decorated with frescoes, while an inscription above the main entrance records that the church was refurbished in 1784, during the time that Zakharias II was metropolitan Bishop of Corinthia.

The Koimesis tis Theotokou was originally built as a parish church. Today it remains isolated.
